Four parents light candles together.
Wedding Suggestion: All Parents light the Candles
It is a common practice for the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom to each light a candle, from which the bride and groom will light their unity candle. An even greater image of unity and support is shown when all four parents light the candles. After walking to where the candles are placed, the bride’s parents hold one candle together and the groom’s parents hold the other candle together and light it.

The bride’s parents and the groom’s parents light candles.

Holding hands shows unity and provides steadiness.
As the dads escort the moms back to their seats, sometimes the mothers reach out to hold each other’s hand as well.
